JOHN COSGROVE is a multi-award winning professional travel, adventure, news, sports and editorial photographer, digital trainer and motivator of photographers of all ages and capabilities, John specializes at helping photographers of all ages and skill levels achieve their goals as digital photographers.

Recent photography assignments for John have seen him travel to more than 30 locations as distant as India and New York, South Africa and Korea. He has been the official stills photographer on the Sony Pictures The Amazing Race Asia TV reality shows and the AXN Extreme Macau 2006, and in between editing editions of PHOTOVIDEOi and hosting training courses, he has also been working with clients such as Silk Air, Nokia, Canon, Sony, Nikon, Epson and Adobe. John was the principal host of the Epson Print Academy held in Singapore, India, Thailand and the Philippines in 2004/5, and the Oceania/Asia wide Nikon Digital Road show (9 cities in 27 days) in 2003.

Founder and Editor of the multi award winning PHOTOVIDEOi magazine in Singapore, her turned it into one of South East Asia’s largest monthly photography magazines.

John has more than 30 years experience as a professional newspaper and editorial magazine photographer, contributing to many international publications, recent clients include National Geographic Channel, The Age and The Australian. He was one of New Zealand’s first digital newspaper photography trainers, starting with his conversion to a total digital workflow more than ten years ago An internationally renowned digital news photography trainer, John has been working recently with such newspapers such as the SCMP, Strait Times, Bangkok Post, Times of India, Hindustani Times, Hindu, Malaya Manorama through IFRA Asia/India.

Career positions recently held include Chief Photographer DScene Newspaper Dunedin, Founding Editor PHOTOVIDEOi magazine, Assistant Picture Editor at Straits Times Singapore, Group Photo Editor at Times Newspapers Auckland. A senior staff photographer at The Straits Times. The Press Chch, contributing photographer to the Dominion Sunday Star Times, Auckland and Assistant Editor AutoNews NZ.

John is also the Editor of INSIDE photo, a free only PDF style online photography magazine.

Since 1997 John has appeared on stage many times around the world, talking on subjects such as the digital workflow, retouching images using Photoshop, and how to improve your newspaper and magazine photography skills.

Latest work include many varied assignments for Fairfax NZ Ltd and training courses on newspaper photography and digital workflows conducted at Mountain Scene and the NZNPS as well as a host of digital photography training workshops for various rural communities around the South Island of New Zealand while he continues his studies for his Masters Degree in Fine Arts (Photography) at the Otago Polytechnic School of Art in Dunedin.
